Health workers in Greater Mukono Sub-region are rejoicing as St Francis Naggalama Hospital in Mukono District unveils the first-of-its-kind Computed Tomography (CT) machine, a medical breakthrough valued at Shs967.8m.

Relieving a Healthcare Strain




The acquisition addresses a critical gap in the region’s healthcare system, bringing relief to health workers who grappled with challenges treating patients lacking access to detailed internal body scans. Mukono District health officer, Dr Stephen Mulindwa, spoke of the struggles faced due to the absence of a CT machine in the sub-region, necessitating patients’ transport to distant facilities like Jinja, Mulago, and Naguru Hospitals.




A Technological Lifeline




Dr Emmanuel Higenyi, Director of Technical Medical Services at Joint Medical Stores, highlighted the pivotal role of the CT machine in advancing healthcare. The Shs967.8m investment marks a timely embrace of technology, enabling precise identification of diseases and facilitating prompt and effective medical interventions. The technological upgrade proves indispensable for timely diagnoses of various health complications.

Call for Further Investment

Lugazi Diocese Bishop (emeritus) Mathias Ssekamanya urged the government to bolster healthcare facilities with modern technologies. Emphasizing the need for inclusivity, he stressed the importance of extending quality healthcare services to rural, semi-urban, and urban areas. The plea extends to the Uganda Catholic Medical Bureau, encouraging teamwork and customer satisfaction for enhanced patient care.




Hospital’s Commitment to Quality Healthcare

Rev Sr Jane Francis Nakafeero, Director-in-Charge of Administration at St Francis Naggalama Hospital, detailed the facility’s impressive numbers, supporting 75,000 patients, administering 30,000 immunizations, and overseeing 2,500 deliveries annually.
