RUBIRIZI, Uganda – Rubirizi District District Council has approved a Shs36.4 billion budget for the Financial Year 2026/2027 aimed at improving service delivery, boosting household incomes, and accelerating socio-economic transformation across the district.
The budget was passed during a council sitting held yesterday at the district headquarters, where district leaders emphasized transparency, accountability, and equitable development.
Speaking during the council session, Rubirizi District Planner Mr. Atwine Albert said the approved budget is intended to improve the quality of life of people in the district through better service delivery and strategic development projects.
He noted that the budget will focus on key sectors including education, health, infrastructure development, roads, water access, tourism, trade, and environmental protection.
According to the allocations approved by council, the Education Department received the largest share of the budget with Shs15.4 billion, followed by the Health Department with Shs6.9 billion. The Administration Department was allocated Shs5 billion, while the Production Department received Shs2.3 billion.
Other allocations include Shs1.74 billion for the Roads Department, Shs966 million for the Water Department, Shs525 million for Tourism and Trade, and Shs447 million for Natural Resources and Environment.
Rubirizi District Speaker Hon. Katesigwa Stivin, who presided over the council sitting, said the budget prioritizes transparency, accountability, and effective service delivery to local communities.
He revealed that councillors also discussed challenges affecting service delivery and agreed on several measures aimed at improving performance in the next financial year.
Katesigwa warned government workers against misusing public funds, stressing that any official found involved in corruption or misuse of resources would face arrest and prosecution.
Meanwhile, Rubirizi District Chairperson Aguba Silvester emphasized the importance of the budget in promoting infrastructure development, human capital growth, and climate change mitigation.
Aguba also thanked fellow outgoing leaders for the unity, cooperation, and commitment they demonstrated during the last five years, saying their efforts laid a strong foundation for the district’s social and economic transformation.
He urged leaders to remain focused, calm, and committed to serving the people as the district continues implementing development programs.
