Leaders in Rubirizi District have called on Muslims to uphold unity, discipline, respect, and love within their communities as they marked Eid celebrations at Rugyenda Main Mosque.
Hon. Cadet Benjamin made the appeal while addressing hundreds of faithful who gathered for Eid prayers from six different mosques. He commended the Muslim community for demonstrating unity and commitment to their faith, urging them to maintain the spirit of togetherness.
He further encouraged Muslims to support government programs aimed at improving household incomes and livelihoods.
Hon. Cadet Benjamin also tasked religious leaders with continuing to preach messages of kindness, forgiveness, and unity, noting that such values foster peace, happiness, and blessings within families and the wider community.
In a show of support, he and his family contributed Shs4 million towards mosque development, specifically for land acquisition, and pledged to help secure a land title to facilitate future Muslim projects.
Rubirizi District Woman MP-elect, Hon. Jeniva Arinitwe Nalongo, urged Muslims to prioritize education for their children and actively engage in income-generating activities to improve their standards of living.
She described Eid as a sacred period of reflection, renewal, and reconciliation, calling on believers to embrace values such as compassion, unity, and service to others.
Hon. Nalongo also encouraged Muslims to extend the spirit of Ramadan beyond the holy month by showing kindness to the vulnerable, promoting justice, and strengthening national unity. She contributed Shs3 million towards Islamic projects and pledged continued support for community development initiatives.
Religious leaders echoed similar messages, emphasizing the need for peace and cooperation among believers.
Sheikh Manisuri Siwatu urged Muslims to embrace hard work, love, and peaceful coexistence, stressing that unity is key to achieving prosperity within households.
He also called on parents to instill Islamic values and discipline in their children to build a responsible and morally upright generation.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Bukenya Imuran, Imam of Kabete Mosque, cautioned against mixing politics with religion, warning that it can undermine unity within the Muslim community. He encouraged believers to remain focused on Islamic teachings, support community projects, and uphold the five pillars of Islam.
The religious leaders also commended Hon. Cadet Benjamin and Hon. Jeniva Nalongo for their contributions and continued efforts in promoting unity and development among Muslims in Rubirizi District.
