MBARARA, Uganda — Authorities in Mbarara City have ordered the temporary closure of City High School Mbarara in Koranorya following a series of violent incidents involving students accused of attacking residents, vandalizing homes, and setting up nighttime roadblocks to rob members of the public.
The Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Mbarara City North Division, Jackline Kankunda, confirmed the closure, citing growing concern over public safety.
She revealed that on Wednesday night, a group of students allegedly assaulted residents, leaving three people injured. The victims are currently receiving treatment at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital.
Kankunda noted that this is the third time such incidents have been reported, raising alarm among both authorities and the local community. She emphasized that decisive action was necessary to restore order and protect residents from further harm.
Security agencies have since launched investigations into the matter, while education authorities are expected to engage the school’s management to address the recurring indiscipline among students.
Local leaders say the closure will remain in effect until measures are put in place to ensure discipline, accountability, and the safety of the surrounding community.
