The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has issued a statement addressing a video circulating on social media featuring Brigadier General Matthew Gureme, the former Chief of Training and Recruitment in the UPDF. Currently serving as Uganda’s Defence Liaison Officer at the East African Community Secretariat headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, Brig Gen Matthew Gureme is seen in the video purportedly announcing a recruitment exercise for 2022.
In response to the video, UPDF officials clarified that the footage is outdated and does not reflect any recent recruitment activities undertaken by the UPDF. The statement emphasizes that no official announcement regarding recruitment has been made by the UPDF.
The UPDF assures the public that accurate information regarding recruitment exercises will be disseminated through both traditional print media and online platforms. This commitment aims to ensure transparency and prevent misinformation among the public regarding UPDF recruitment processes.
Furthermore, the UPDF urges individuals to disregard the old video circulating on social media platforms. The statement suggests that the video may have been fabricated by individuals seeking to deceive the public.
