Over 600 UPDF Soldiers Complete Instruction and Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Course

Major General Francis Takirwa, the Deputy Commander Land Forces, oversaw the graduation of 614 soldiers in a ceremony held at the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy (NCOA) in Gaddafi Barracks, Jinja District. These soldiers had completed the Instruction and Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Course.

Addressing the graduates, Maj Gen Takirwa urged them to uphold the legacy of success within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF). He emphasized the importance of diligence, stating that failure should not be an option for them. Referring to the UPDF’s achievements both domestically and internationally, he encouraged the soldiers to contribute to maintaining the high standards set by the institution.

Maj Gen Takirwa highlighted the significance of enhancing training methods within the UPDF. He expressed confidence that improvements in training techniques would positively impact the performance and efficiency of soldiers, contributing to the overall success of the force.

Brigadier General Alex Olupot, from the Joint Staff – Training and Doctrine, acknowledged the rigorous nature of the course completed by the soldiers. Despite its challenges, he stressed its importance in producing skilled and proficient human resources. He emphasized that the acquired skills would not only benefit the soldiers individually but also strengthen the UPDF as a whole.

Colonel Saad Katemba, the Commandant of NCOA, provided insights into the composition of the training program. He explained that the participants were selected from Kaweweta and Olilim Training Schools to undergo training in both the Instructors Course Level III and the Junior Non-Commissioned Officers Course.

Recognition was given to outstanding performers during the course. Private Mugish Vincent emerged as the best overall trainee, showcasing exemplary dedication and skill. Additionally, Private Biira Movias excelled in parade drills, Private Esinga Thomas demonstrated exceptional marksmanship at the shooting range, and Private Amusugut Betty exhibited outstanding performance in the classroom.

The ceremony was attended by various high-ranking officials within the UPDF, including Brigadier General Emmanuel Kanyesigye, the Jinja Cantonment Commander, Brigadier General Chris Ogwal, Commandant of the Junior Staff College, and Brigadier General Bahwezi, the Deputy Commandant of Senior Command and Staff College – Kimaka. Also present were Colonel Dothan Kavuma, the Commandant of Mountain Warfare Training School, and several other distinguished guests.

The event served not only as a celebration of the soldiers’ achievements but also as a reminder of the ongoing commitment to excellence within the UPDF. Through continuous training and dedication, the soldiers affirmed their readiness to contribute to the defense and security of Uganda, ensuring the continued success of the nation’s armed forces.
