Three Dead, One Critical in Early Morning Crash on Masindi–Kafu Road

Masindi, Uganda – Three people have died and one remains in critical condition following a tragic road accident that occurred early Thursday morning along the Masindi–Kafu road.

The crash took place at approximately 5:00 AM in Nyabinyira Cell, Bigando Ward, Kigulya Division, Masindi Municipality.

  • Fenda Ahisibwe, 30

  • Olivia Tumwesigye

  • A woman identified only as Rose

A fourth victim, identified as Brenda, is currently admitted in critical condition at Masindi Hospital and is expected to be transferred to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.

According to Eriya Tumusiime, Ahisibwe’s younger brother, the victims were en route to Kisalizi Market along the Masindi–Hoima road when their motorcycle collided head-on with a vehicle.

“Ahisibwe told me last evening that he would leave early in the morning for the market,” Tumusiime said, expressing shock over the loss.

Godfrey Wobusobozi, a resident of Kimengo Sub-county, confirmed that the victims were well known in the community and were traveling to the market for trading purposes.

Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza stated that the crash involved a motorcycle with registration number UMA 799BD and a vehicle registered as UBE 172F, which was being driven by Robinah Birungi.

According to Hakiza, two of the victims died on the spot, while the third passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital. The motorcycle and vehicle involved in the accident have been impounded and taken to Masindi Central Police Station for inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV) as investigations continue into the cause of the collision.

Hakiza urged all road users, especially motorcyclists and highway drivers, to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid such tragic incidents.
