KAMPALA — The recognition of businessman Harshad Maganbhai Barot, the founder of Tirupati Development (U) Ltd, with a national award, has drawn renewed attention to the role of the private sector in Uganda’s development.
Barot was in January conferred with the Crested Crane Grand Officer Award by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, a distinction that acknowledges outstanding service and contribution to the country.
During a function last week organised by the Bhambhatt Samaj Uganda in Kampala, speakers emphasised that such honours reflect not only individual achievement but also the growing influence of business leaders in shaping Uganda’s economic trajectory.
Family representative Miraj Harshad Barot said the award underscored a lifetime of commitment to enterprise and community values, noting that Barot’s journey began when he relocated to Uganda in 1993.
He added that the recognition highlights the importance of integrity, service, and long-term investment in building sustainable businesses.
Participants at the event said the award signals government’s continued acknowledgement of the private sector as a key partner in national development, particularly in areas such as job creation, trade, and industrial growth.
The function, coordinated by Sachin Brahmbhatt with support from Nitesh Brahmbhatt and Nilesh Brahmbhatt, brought together business leaders and community members who called for sustained collaboration between government and entrepreneurs.
Observers note that national honours such as the Crested Crane Award increasingly serve to spotlight the contribution of individuals and enterprises in advancing Uganda’s economic agenda while reinforcing confidence in the country’s investment climate.
