His Highness the Umukuka of Bugisu has unveiled a new cabinet comprising technocrats, security experts, academicians, business leaders, former political figures, and religious leaders to serve the Bugisu Cultural Institution, where the Umukuka is the gazetted Cultural Leader.
Steven Masiga, spokesperson of the institution, told this publication that in assembling the team, the Umukuka was guided by the spirit of the Cultural Leaders Act, which grants him the authority to appoint individuals of his choice to serve the community in a cultural capacity, particularly in mobilizing people for development.
Notable among the new appointments are Dr. Gorret Kitutu, former Minister for Karamoja Affairs; Hon. Michael Werikhe, State Minister for Trade in charge of Cooperatives; Dorcas Okalany, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Lands; and Dr. Sarah Khanakwa, former Namisindwa Woman parliamentary candidate.

Masiga stated that it is his duty to communicate the official positions of the Cultural Institution. He notified the Bugisu region, Uganda, and the diaspora of the newly appointed officials.
He emphasized that no one is authorized to transact any business on behalf of the Cultural Institution without express written permission from His Highness the Umukuka, unless their name appears on the official list.

Masiga urged the newly appointed officials to serve with dedication and devotion, promote peace, and sensitize communities about government programs. He encouraged them to discourage strikes as a means of demanding services and instead promote peaceful engagement.
The new team will work closely with government and the community to fulfill the institution’s mandates.
