The commander of the 5th Division, Brigadier General Keith Katungi, has assured the people and authorities of Lira City that the UPDF will regularly participate in cleaning the city every month, in collaboration with the City authorities. He made this commitment during a press conference held in the Mayor’s Garden, Lira City, on Monday.
As Uganda celebrates the 43rd Tarehe Sita anniversary, Brigadier General Keith Katungi explained that the annual celebration is rotational. This year, it will be commemorated in Greater Busoga and hosted by Bugweri district.
The 5th Division UPDF, under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Keith, actively participated in cleaning various streets to demonstrate solidarity and maintain the city’s cleanliness. Similar cleaning exercises are also underway in Kitgum and Lira City.
The 5th Division covers the nine districts of Lango, East Acholi, including Agago, Lamwo, Kitgum, Pader, and Abim, inclusive of the southern part of Karamoja.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Celebrating the People’s Struggle for Unity, Society, and Peace for Socio-economic Transformation.”
The event was attended by the RCC, Lira City authorities, including Mayor Sam Atul, Deputy Mayor Alwedo Rebecca, Q FM staff, Voice of Lango FM, Unity FM, Voice of the Gospel, among other key radio stations, as well as members of the print media and online newspapers.
