Behind Closed Doors: Gabon President Nguema and Museveni’s Secret Talks Revealed

President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda met with Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the transitional President of Gabon, during an official visit to State House in Entebbe. Nguema is in Uganda for a two-day visit, which began on August 1, 2024, at the invitation of President Museveni. He was accompanied by Gabon’s First Lady, Zita Oligui Nguema, and other high-ranking delegates.

During their meeting, President Nguema provided an update on the political situation in Gabon. He discussed the progress of the transition timetable and the plans for an upcoming referendum. President Museveni, joined by his wife, Janet Museveni, who is the Minister of Education and Sports, praised the transitional government’s efforts toward restoring constitutional democracy in Gabon.

Both leaders expressed their intention to enhance bilateral cooperation between Uganda and Gabon. They discussed ways to deepen their collaboration in various sectors to benefit their respective countries. President Nguema expressed Gabon’s interest in reducing reliance on food imports and sought Uganda’s expertise in agricultural development, particularly in wealth creation.

The discussion also covered various regional, continental, and international issues of mutual interest. President Nguema thanked President Museveni for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him and his delegation. He invited President Museveni to visit Gabon on a date to be arranged through diplomatic channels.
