Reports indicate that the former Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, had allegedly begun laying early groundwork to contest for the Soroti City West parliamentary seat in the 2031 general elections.
According to sources, the former Speaker is said to have been building political support networks in the Teso sub-region through close contacts, including some political actors within the area, as part of a long-term strategy to position herself for elective politics.
The Soroti City West seat is currently held by Calvin Echodu, who also serves as the NRM Vice National Chairperson for the Eastern region.
It is further alleged that preliminary mobilization efforts included strengthening alliances with local political figures in the region, although these claims have not been independently verified.
Reports also suggest that the former Speaker acquired land in the Manjengo area from a local businessman dealing in produce, with construction work said to be ongoing on the property.
However, it remains unclear what is being constructed at the site, and no official statement has been issued regarding the purpose of the development.
Sources further claim that the long-term political strategy may be aimed at building a base ahead of a possible bid to unseat the incumbent MP.
Neither the former Speaker nor her representatives have publicly confirmed the alleged political plans or the reported activities in Soroti City West.
More details are expected as developments unfold.
