The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has begun distributing funds raised during his 52nd birthday charity run, starting with a Shs 100 million donation to support children battling cancer.
The funds were part of over Shs 1 billion reportedly raised during the “Run for Charity, Run for Hope” event held on 26th April at Kololo Independence Grounds, which attracted thousands of participants from government, the military, civil society, cultural institutions, and the general public.
On Friday, Gen. Muhoozi, accompanied by his wife Charlotte, officially handed over the donation to the Uganda Child Cancer Foundation (UCCF) during a ceremony held at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.
The contribution is aimed at strengthening the foundation’s efforts to support children undergoing cancer treatment in Uganda, particularly through improved access to care and welfare services.
Representatives from the foundation, including medical professionals and administrators, welcomed the donation and revealed plans to construct a hostel near the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI). The proposed facility is expected to provide accommodation for children receiving treatment, reducing the burden of long and exhausting travel for patients and their families.
During the handover, Gen. Muhoozi reaffirmed his commitment to supporting vulnerable children and praised the work of the foundation in improving access to healthcare and patient support services.
The Uganda Child Cancer Foundation (UCCF), which benefits from donations and partnerships with international organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American Cancer Society, focuses on supporting children affected by cancer through transport, feeding, accommodation, awareness, and advocacy programs.
Founded in 2006 and fully active in recent years, the foundation continues to rely on charitable contributions to sustain its operations and expand its reach across Uganda.
The 52nd birthday run, held under the theme “Run for Charity, Run for Hope,” is expected to benefit multiple charitable causes, with more disbursements anticipated in the coming weeks.
