KAMPALA, Uganda — A leadership dispute has erupted at Sports Club Villa following the resignation of the club’s spokesperson and executive member, Asan Kasingye, over a controversial notice announcing a UGX 100 million nomination fee for candidates seeking the position of club president.

The notice, issued by the club secretariat, stated that members had resolved during a general meeting that anyone intending to contest for the presidency of the club would be required to pay UGX 100,000,000 as a nomination fee.

However, Kasingye publicly rejected the communication, saying the decision had not been discussed or agreed upon by the club’s executive leadership, and that he had not been informed before the notice was released.

In a strongly worded statement shared on Twitter, Kasingye described the move as disrespectful.

“If what I was stating was wrong, you should have had the courtesy of telling me to correct it,” he said.

He added that the individuals who released the notice did not inform him that his earlier statements regarding the matter were inaccurate, something he said undermined his role as spokesperson.

“As a result, I have officially resigned as SC Villa spokesman and executive member,” he announced.

Meanwhile, the club’s Electoral Committee has moved ahead with the election roadmap. In a separate notice signed by the Electoral Committee chairperson, Brian Kajubi, members who picked nomination forms have been reminded that the deadline for submitting completed forms is Saturday, 7th March 2026, at 5:00 PM.

The committee warned that late submissions will not be accepted, urging all aspiring candidates to ensure their documents are filed within the stipulated timeframe.

The unfolding developments signal growing internal tensions within the historic Kampala-based football club as preparations continue for the election of a new club president.

Sports Club Villa, one of Uganda’s most successful football clubs, is currently undergoing leadership transitions aimed at shaping its future administration and governance.
