Russia is continuing to hold a missile carrier armed with Kalibr cruise missiles in the Black Sea, maintaining a persistent threat to Ukraine. This information was confirmed by the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who reported the situation at 06:00 on 27 April 2025.
According to the Navy, the enemy ship in the Black Sea is equipped with up to six Kalibr-type missiles, keeping the possibility of missile strikes against Ukraine alive. Despite the tensions in the region, there are currently no enemy ships reported in the Sea of Azov. However, in the Mediterranean Sea, Russian forces have stationed four ships, two of which are also armed with Kalibr missiles, holding a combined salvo of up to twelve missiles.
In addition, it was recorded that during the day, the Kerch Strait was actively used by Russian interests. Four vessels crossed into the Black Sea, with three continuing towards the Bosporus Strait, while eight vessels entered the Sea of Azov, including three vessels that had arrived from the Bosporus.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have again highlighted that Russia continues to violate international maritime laws, including the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea of 1974 (SOLAS), by illegally disabling automatic identification systems. This deliberate action by the Kremlin demonstrates a blatant disregard for international norms and endangers civilian navigation.
The economic implications of Russia’s continued aggression in the Black Sea are significant. Disruptions to shipping lanes and maritime security could result in damages running into millions in much needed funds and lost opportunities.
