President Museveni Invited as Special Speaker for Russia-Africa Panel Discussion

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been invited to participate in the Primakov Readings International Forum, which will take place in Moscow, Russia, from November 27 to 28, 2023.

This forum brings together decision-makers, think tanks, and university representatives from over 30 countries to discuss global challenges. The invitation was extended to President Museveni on October 2 at State House Entebbe by a Russian delegation led by Yukhnin Ergeny, accompanied by Shatalora Alina and Yukhnina Anastasiia. First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni, also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the delegation requested President Museveni to be a special speaker at a panel discussion on the topic of ‘Russia-Africa: From Program Directives to Practical Results.’ Yukhnin Ergeny expressed the high esteem and respect that the Russian people hold for President Museveni, referring to him as a popular African leader.

President Museveni readily accepted the invitation to participate virtually in the conference, emphasizing the commonalities between Africa and Russia, particularly their history of fighting for freedom with support from the Communist Party during the fight against colonialism.

Additionally, the President discussed the possibility of attracting Russian investors to Uganda, highlighting the country’s unique climate and expressing his desire for others to come and enjoy it. The Russian delegation expressed interest in establishing a pharmaceutical factory, a fertilizer plant, and a technology factory for agro-processing in Uganda. They also discussed interests in mineral processing and tourism.

Yukhnin Ergeny praised Uganda’s natural beauty, fauna, flora, and the hospitality of its people during the meeting. Finance Minister Matia Kasaija, Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze, State Minister for Privatization and Investment Evelyn Anite, Permanent Secretary in the Health Ministry Dr. Diana Atwine, and other senior government officials were present at the meeting.
