The Uganda Police Force has apprehended individuals suspected of having ties to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a militant group known for its activities in the border regions of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The arrests provide insight into the background and activities of these individuals.
The Territorial Police in Rwenzori West and Kitagwenda have taken into custody Matsiko Farouk, a 27-year-old man believed to be associated with the ADF. Farouk was residing in Kafunda cell, Ibanda Municipality, before relocating to Nyanga cell in Mahyoro sub-county, Katagwenda district, for casual work. His presence raised suspicion among the local community, who alerted the police, leading to his arrest.
Upon his arrest, Farouk confessed to having been allegedly kidnapped in 2015 by the ADF along with five others at River Nyamwamba in Kasese. They were taken to the Kilembe highlands of Mount Rwenzori before crossing into the DRC. There, they underwent training as Intelligence Officers. Farouk possesses knowledge about various areas, including Bundibugyo, Bwera, Luwero, and Najjanankumbi. He claims to have escaped from the California ADF Camp and returned to his home village in Kafunda cell, Ibanda district.
In a separate incident, the territorial police in CPS Kampala detained Komaketch Ransur, also known as Kadogo, an 18-year-old individual suspected of being an ADF remnant. Kadogo was found in possession of live ammunition. He admitted to being recruited into the ADF when he was just seven years old. Remarkably, he managed to escape from an ADF camp in the DRC and return to Uganda.
The Joint Security Agencies are actively monitoring areas where ADF elements and remnants may be in hiding. Despite past affiliations, these individuals are perceived as posing a potential threat to the safety of Ugandans and visitors within the country. Vigilance remains crucial to ensure the security of the nation.
