Museveni Holds Talks with RSF Leader Hemetti on Sudan’s Conflict

President Yoweri Museveni met with General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, also known as Hemetti, the former Deputy Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan and current head of Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The meeting took place at Museveni’s Rwakitura country home, where they discussed strategies to address the longstanding conflict in Sudan, as reported by The Sudan Tribune.

President Museveni confirmed the meeting on social media, stating that Hemetti briefed him on the current situation in Sudan. The discussions focused on recent developments in Sudan and the challenges faced by the Sudanese people, according to a statement released by Hemetti from Kampala.

Hemetti, who arrived in Uganda on Tuesday, shared his vision during the meeting, emphasizing the need to negotiate, end the war, and build a new Sudan. He reiterated his commitment to the outcomes of the extraordinary meeting of IGAD heads of state and government held in Djibouti on December 9, 2023.

Sources revealed that Hemetti requested the direct involvement of IGAD leaders in the meeting, originally scheduled to be attended by only the President of Djibouti and the Chair of IGAD. The face-to-face meeting, initially set for December 28th in Djibouti, has been postponed to January, with the exact date undisclosed.

Hemetti affirmed his dedication to implementing measures to end the war, relieve the suffering of the Sudanese people, and restore security and stability to the country.
