The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has launched an operation to apprehend suspected remnants of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) believed to be responsible for the killing of nearly 10 people in Kamwenge district on Monday night. Brig. Gen. Felix Kulayigye, the UPDF spokesperson, confirmed the ongoing operation to track down the assailants.
According to Kulayigye, the attackers, identified as a group of ADF members, were searching for food and tragically killed locals, including the area woman councillor and LC1 chairperson. The spokesperson noted that the ADF commander had been arrested the previous week, and two members were killed in Kibale Forest.
Security has been heightened in Kamwenge following the attack, and Kulayigye urged residents to remain vigilant during the festive season, emphasizing the need for collaboration with security agencies. He cautioned that terrorists might attempt to exploit the festive season and called for public cooperation in reporting any suspicious activities.
Eng. Cuthbert Abigaba Mirembe, the Member of Parliament for Kibale County, expressed concern over the reported deaths, indicating that rebels had infiltrated the area. He praised the quick response of the security team and urged residents to identify and report any suspects. Abigaba acknowledged the challenging situation in and around Kyabandara, offering condolences to the families affected by the tragic incident.
