President Yoweri Museveni disclosed that the First Lady, Janet Museveni, is in self-isolation at Rwakitura following a positive COVID-19 test. The testing was prompted by her experiencing weakness, headache, and throat irritation.
“On Christmas day, after a family lunch, Maama Janet started feeling a sandy sensation in the throat. We initially did a Rapid Corona test, which yielded a negative result. However, a subsequent PCR test in Mbarara returned positive,” President Museveni shared on Twitter (X).
President Museveni clarified that his own tests came back negative and explained, “We decided for Maama to self-isolate in one of the houses at Rwakyitura while I continue with the scheduled programs that do not involve her.”
The President mentioned specific events, like the Kyenkwanzi visit and Hon. Kaboyo’s function, which they had to skip due to the First Lady’s situation.
Despite being in close proximity to the First Lady, including sharing a room and an air-conditioned car, President Museveni remained negative. He speculated whether his past survival of Corona in May played a role. He praised the First Lady as a first-time corona warrior, mentioning that she is doing well.
President Museveni concluded by stating that there would be no compulsory corona testing during the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Kampala next year. He attributed this decision to consultations with NAM stakeholders who expressed concerns about exposing their DNA.
