The late Dr. Jino Abiriga, the former acting District Health Officer (DHO) of Masindi, who was tragically found dead on Sunday, was more than a dedicated surgeon—he was also an enthusiast of biology practical lessons. New Vision Online has uncovered that Abiriga engaged in rearing rabbits, frogs, and rats for A’level biology practical sessions.

Abiriga’s body was discovered in a neighbor’s compound in Kijura, north-central division, Masindi municipality, showing signs of a cut on his neck and abdomen. The shocking incident has led to the arrest of Abiriga’s widow, Betty Cherotich, and three of his children in connection with the murder.

Revelations about Abiriga’s biology interests came from Davidson Madira, Managing Director of Digital Green Investment Agency (DIGIA), who attended school with the late DHO at St Joseph’s Secondary School Ombaci. Speaking on Vision Group’s Kabalega FM, Madira shared insights into Abiriga’s academic prowess, highlighting his excellent performance in both O’level and A’level, where he scored AAB in physics, chemistry, and biology.

Madira emphasized Abiriga’s humble background and noted that despite financial challenges, he excelled academically. Although Abiriga wasn’t involved in politics during his school days, he was recognized for his time management skills and active participation in the young Catholic choir, reflecting his strong Catholic faith.
