Kawempe Muslim Ladies faced a setback in their pursuit of a wider lead in the FUFA Women Super League table, squandering a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 with Makerere University at the Valley Grounds on Wednesday.
The highly anticipated clash began with Kawempe taking the lead through Yudaya Nakayenze’s brace in the 35th and 47th minutes. The team seemed in control until the 83rd minute, when Sharon Namatovu netted for Makerere, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.
Namatovu’s goal disrupted Kawempe’s composure, prompting panic-stricken decisions and cheap fouls in the dying moments. In stoppage time, a crucial free kick by Daphine Nalubowa leveled the score at 2-2, shattering the hopes of Kawempe fans and igniting wild cheers among the few Makerere supporters.
Despite a late scare as Makerere sought a winner, Namatovu’s header failed to find the mark, allowing Kawempe to salvage a draw on home turf. The missed opportunity denied Kawempe a chance to extend their lead at the top of the league standings.
With this draw, Kawempe remains at the summit with 14 points, just one ahead of second-placed Kampala Queens, the defending champions. Meanwhile, Makerere University climbs to fifth place with seven points.
This fixture, originally scheduled for November, had been postponed due to both teams having players engaged in national duties. The rescheduled match saw all 10 teams in the division complete six games each.
As the league progresses, match day seven is set to kick off this weekend at various venues across the country.
