The tight-knit business community in Kyotera District is grappling with shock and sorrow following the recent suicides of two prominent local businessmen. Moses Lwanga and Paul Kasozi were found dead on January 15 and 10, respectively, both apparent victims of hanging. The local police have confirmed the suicides but underscored that investigations into the causes are still ongoing.

Transport dealer Moses Lwanga’s lifeless body was discovered hanging by a rope inside his residence on Monday. While the Kyotera Town Council Police confirmed his death and cleared the way for his burial post-mortem, they reiterated that the investigative process was far from concluded.

Friends of the deceased Moses Lwanga revealed that he had recently gone through a separation from his wife and, in the days leading up to his death, exhibited signs of loneliness and depression. Suleiman Sseremba, a local leader in Kyotera Town Council, described Lwanga as a hardworking man deeply committed to his family. However, he noted a noticeable change in Lwanga’s behavior as he began isolating himself and maintaining a silent demeanor.

Lwanga, a well-established businessman with significant connections in the transport industry, reportedly confided in some friends about his misery after parting ways with his wife. He had played a role in her education and helped secure her a job as a medical worker attached to Kyotera District Local Government.

Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding the death of Paul Kasozi, the second businessman, are shrouded in a different set of complexities. Residents in Kyotera Town Council suggest that Kasozi had a falling out with one of his wives, suspecting her of eloping with another man. This alleged discord led to the demolition of a bar he had set up for her, resulting in his arrest. Kasozi was released on bond, only for news of his suicide to circulate shortly afterward.

Kyotera District Police Commander Hassan Musooba, in an interview with local press on Tuesday, confirmed both deaths by suicide. However, he underscored that the investigative process was still ongoing, leaving many unanswered questions in the wake of these tragic events.
