Today, the Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Janet Kataha Museveni, is set to release the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results for 749,347 pupils who took the exams last year. The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) confirmed that the results will be disclosed at State House Nakasero.
Ms Kataha was briefed yesterday by Mr Dan Odongo, the executive secretary of Uneb, regarding the overall performance of the pupils. Hasadu Kirabira, the chairperson of the National Private Education Institutions Association, expressed anticipation for the results, confident in the quality education provided by their schools.
Expectations of competition among schools in Wakiso, Kampala, and Mukono were noted, with an observation that central and urban schools tend to perform well due to various factors like resource availability and a conducive learning environment.
PLE Statistics:
A total of 247,728 pupils from private schools and others from Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools sat for the exams in 14,442 centers. Girls constituted the majority at 52% (391,558 pupils), with boys making up 48% (357,789 pupils). Special Needs Education learners (2,436) and 79 inmates from Upper Prison School Luzira also participated.
In last year’s exams, girls outperformed boys in English, while boys excelled in Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies.
Fraud Warning
Mr Odongo issued a warning about impostors attempting to manipulate Uneb grading systems, targeting heads of centers and school directors. Uneb strongly cautioned against involvement with such fraudsters.
