Out of the 85 candidates who sat PLE in 2023, all of them passed in Division 1 with the highest grades, surpassing many prominent schools in Lira city. Seven candidates scored an aggregate of 4, and nine candidates scored an aggregate of 5. All the candidates passed with flying colors.
According to Mr. Elem Leo, the headteacher of St. Gracious Nursery and Primary School, in an interview with The Ankole Times news desk, he mentioned that they expect to perform even better in the forthcoming PLE Examinations in 2024. This is due to the deployment of eight competent teachers in the two streams of Primary Seven class.
He stated that the St. Gracious Nursery and Primary section, which excelled in PLE last year (2023) with all 85 candidates in Grade One, aims to continue producing as many first graders as possible annually.
Alfred Okello, one of the parents, expressed his happiness with the performance of St. Gracious Primary School and encouraged parents to enroll their children at St. Gracious Nursery and Primary School as term one opens in early February 2024. He said, “I can assure you that we are very happy and delighted because all the pupils received distinction in the English subject. I am so humbled by these PLE results, especially compared to 2022 when 93 candidates sat, out of which 91 got Division 1 and two in Division 2. This time, all of them passed in Division 1.”
The school director, Dr. Patrick Olet, emphasized the importance of registering children to witness the fruits of education in Lango with St. Gracious Nursery and Primary. He mentioned that the school has opened another branch in Lira City West Division with ample boarding facilities. Dr. Olet claimed that they have outperformed many schools in Lira, Gulu, and Central Uganda.
Mr. Elem Leo, the headteacher of St. Gracious Nursery and Primary School, shared that in 2022, 93 P7 candidates sat for PLE examinations with a total of 50 boys and 43 girls. However, in the 2023 results, girls performed better than boys. He expressed gratitude to parents, pupils, the school director, and stakeholders for their support in achieving these remarkable results.
On the other hand, City Parents School Lira experienced a decline in performance with 28 candidates in Division 1 and six in Division 2, with the best obtaining an aggregate of 5. According to Mr. Otim Douglas, the deputy headteacher, 34 candidates sat for the 2023 PLE examination in total.
VH Public School, which is government-aided, had 60 pupils in Division One and 107 in Division 2 out of 167 candidates who sat in 2023. According to Odur Jacob Gwomson, the headmaster of VH Public School, English was the best-performed subject.
