Residents of Rupa Sub-county, Moroto District, in Karamoja, have received an ambulance donation, bringing relief after years of transportation challenges, especially for pregnant mothers accessing health facilities.

The ambulance, valued at Shs266 million, will serve approximately 30,000 people in the community. Sunbird Resources Ltd, as part of its corporate social responsibility, facilitated this donation to improve maternal health.

Minister of State for Minerals Peter Lokeris, who oversaw the handover, highlighted the significance of this milestone, emphasizing its potential to positively impact maternal healthcare in the region.

The ambulance was handed over to Rupa Community Development Trust (RUCODET), symbolizing both Sunbird Resources Ltd’s and the government’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of Karamoja’s residents.

President Museveni’s vision for inclusive development in Karamoja was reiterated during the event, with Sunbird’s investment in clinker production expected to significantly benefit the region economically.

Moroto Woman MP Stella Atyang emphasized the importance of investor involvement in education and job creation for the local population.

Mr. Ambrose Byona, Director of Sunbird, pledged ongoing support for Karamoja’s transformation and called for government assistance in their endeavors.

Joseph Otita, Rupa Sub-county chairperson, expressed gratitude for the ambulance, recognizing its broad impact on communities in Matheniko and Karamoja.
