Busoga Diocese Bishop Rt Rev Samson Paul Naimanhye has connected the growing incidence of incest to a decline in moral standards among Ugandans.
During a requiem mass for the late engineer Asupasa Kivebulaya Nabulongo Mwase, Bishop Naimanhye highlighted immorality, lack of respect for homes, and increasing gender-based violence as signs of moral decay.
He specifically referenced a recent case in Jinja city where a 35-year-old man was apprehended for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old daughter multiple times in a guest house.
In the incident, a 20-year-old receptionist was also arrested for allegedly facilitating the father-daughter encounter by providing them with accommodation without intervention.
Kiira region police spokesperson Mr. James Mubi emphasized the arrest of the receptionist for aiding the offense and failure to report the situation.
Paul Batambuze, coordinator of Uganda Network for the Empowerment of the Marginalized Child and Youth (NEMACY), condemned the act and advocated for strict enforcement of the law.
Bishop Naimanhye warned of the increasing prevalence of gender-based violence due to moral degradation and urged parents to safeguard their children, stressing that children’s well-being is a parental responsibility. He encouraged women to persevere in their marriages rather than seeking divorce, citing the stability it provides for children’s upbringing.
Reflecting on the married life of the deceased engineer, Bishop Naimanhye emphasized the positive impact of parental guidance on children’s future success, underscoring the importance of marital unity for familial harmony and societal stability.
