A tragic incident occurred in Buvuma district when a 16-year-old boy, identified as Awosi Kironde, was killed by a crocodile while watching over a garden near Lake Victoria. The incident took place on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 10:00 am in Bumazime village, Buwooya sub-county.

Samuel Loma, the Buwooya LC3 chairperson, confirmed the unfortunate event, expressing the community’s efforts to search for the boy’s body in collaboration with local fishermen. Despite their efforts, the body has not been recovered, prompting a plea for expert intervention from the government.

This marks the second incident of a minor being attacked and killed by crocodiles in the area. Loma recounted a similar incident from last month when a nine-year-old boy lost his life while playing by the lakeside in Nairabai sub-county.

Authorities, including Ssezibwa Police region spokesperson Hellen Butoto, have warned parents against allowing children to play near lake shores and swampy areas, where crocodiles tend to hide while hunting for prey.
