Gulu, Uganda – The Gulu district Chairperson LCIIIs, under their umbrella on Tuesday, 19th September 2023, awarded certificates of appreciation to the office of the Resident District Commissioner [RDC] for continuous and tireless efforts in mitigating conflicts among warring parties in the district.
The Chairperson of the association of all the LC3 chairpersons, Mr. Patrick Komakech, further appreciated the office of the RDC for conducting successful land mediation, fighting corruption, and championing monitoring of PDM implementation, Emyooga, UWEP, and other government projects in Gulu district.
Other offices that received certificates include the office of the district Speaker and Manager Whitaker, an NGO working in Gulu district.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Cosmas James Okidi, who received the certificates on behalf of the RDC’s Office, expressed gratitude and applause to the Sub-county leadership, recognizing the good work done. “You are grassroots leaders, foot soldiers, and mobilizers of government programs within your areas of jurisdiction, and I appeal to you to work as a team in realizing socio-economic transformation,” Deputy RDC added.
He said this while addressing a delegation of LCIII Chairpersons, GISOs, Sub-County Speakers, and some selected district councilors, among others. He also encouraged the sub-county leaders to monitor projects and report for improvement.
“I have already taken my office to the village and will be traversing all the parishes and sub-counties to discuss service delivery,” Cosmas revealed.
“I want to assure you that the government, under the leadership of His Excellency General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, is very committed to promoting peace and security, fighting poverty by introducing PDM and other projects, etc. Therefore, as local leaders, we need to embrace the President’s efforts by closely monitoring and sensitizing the population towards economic empowerment.”
According to Okidi, in most cases, the Chairman does not speak well with SAS (Chief), and the speaker could be having conflicts with the Chairman, GISO, district councilors, etc. This conflict must stop because it will derail us from performing our mandates.
“It should be known that we are all doing delegated work of the President, so why should we fight each other?” Cosmas sounded tougher.
