A distressing incident unfolded as at least eight players and officials from Arua City Football Club found themselves hospitalized at Arua Regional Referral Hospital following a bus collision with a Toyota Land Cruiser near Bondo trading center in Arivu sub-county, Arua District.
The unfortunate event occurred around 7:50 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024, while the team was returning from a regional league match against Nebbi Central Football Club.
According to an official statement issued by Lumu Musa, the club chairman, the injured individuals were identified as Abdul Aziz Ayiko, Atabo Boniface Gigi, Emma Okello, George Munguci, Gibson Elinan, alongside officials including technical director Rashid Apangu, photographer Ceaser Khalid, and team doctor Mike Ejua.
“The immediate priority was to ensure that the injured received prompt medical attention. Therefore, they were swiftly transported to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for treatment. We are closely monitoring their conditions and providing them with the necessary support and care during this challenging time,” the statement emphasized.
Efforts to obtain a comment on the incident from the Police were unsuccessful by press time.
Arua City Football Club, operating under the auspices of the Arua City Council, is a fully-fledged team participating in the West Nile Regional Soccer League.
