The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s register update in Kabale District kicked off with a disappointing turnout, signaling a slow start to the five-day exercise.
Reports from various registration display and update centers in Kabale revealed a lackluster response from residents, with only a modest number of individuals participating on the first day.
In Kabale Municipality, centers such as Makanga Hospital and Kijuguta Parish reported minimal activity, with roughly 30 individuals updating their particulars by late afternoon. Makanga Parish recorded even lower numbers, with only 20 people updating their details.
Similar trends were observed in sub-counties across Kabale, where turnout ranged from 20 to 30 individuals updating their information in the yellow book.
David Muhereza, the Kitumba sub-county NRM and LC3 Chairman, expressed concern over the absence of the register in certain areas, such as Bwama Parish, potentially contributing to the subdued turnout.
Babrah Ainebyoona, the Kabale District NRM Registrar, attributed the low participation to the busy schedules of residents, as the update coincided with a regular working day. However, she remained hopeful that participation would increase as the exercise continued.
Godfrey Nyakahuma, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, issued a warning against extortion and disruptions during the exercise, emphasizing the consequences for violators, including possible arrests.
