Moses Amanya, representing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, has been declared the 27th Guild President of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) following a closely contested election.
Amanya’s victory was achieved amidst a competitive race involving three candidates, with him securing a decisive win with 1,685 votes.
The campus atmosphere was charged with excitement and anticipation as students awaited the outcome of this significant election.
The absence of Juma Wasswa Balunywa from the candidacy due to ineligibility heightened Amanya’s prospects in the race.
Despite facing formidable opponents, including Steward Chopre of the National Unity Platform (NUP) and Benedict Luswata of the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), Amanya emerged victorious.
For the NRM, Amanya’s win marks a historic moment, considering the party’s previous unsuccessful attempts in securing the MUBS guild presidency. Messages of congratulations flooded social media platforms, celebrating Amanya’s achievement.
In a post on the NRM’s official account, Amanya was praised for his resounding victory and thanked the students for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the institution.
Similarly, the official MUBS account announced Amanya’s win, recognizing him as the 27th MUBS Guild President and congratulating him on his success in the polls conducted at the main campus.
Amanya’s victory signifies a significant milestone for both the NRM and MUBS, highlighting the importance of student leadership and democratic processes within the university community.
