The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, reaffirmed her steadfast allegiance to President Yoweri Museveni during a public event in Bukedea district. In a gesture of respect and loyalty, Among literally knelt before the President, expressing her unwavering commitment.

She articulated her dedication, stating, “You are the only person who is there for me. You are the only person who knows me as an asset. I will never disappoint you and this is my commitment. I know you don’t believe in kneeling, but I am kneeling for you.”




Among’s declaration of support came during the inauguration of the Bukedea Teaching Hospital and Bukedea Institute of Health Sciences, initiatives championed by her. Recognizing Museveni’s instrumental role in supporting these projects, she emphasized his contribution to the Anita Foundation’s efforts in community healthcare.




Addressing her detractors, Among asserted her confidence in divine protection, stating, “Whoever is doing the fighting, the God I serve will always fight for me.” As a symbolic gesture of solidarity, she presented Museveni with a spear and a yellow shield inscribed with the message “NRM sole candidate 2026,” indicating her endorsement of his candidacy for the upcoming elections.




In response to Among’s gesture, Museveni acknowledged her support and the significance of her contributions to the development of Bukedea district. He accepted the symbolic gifts and expressed gratitude for her dedication to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party and its objectives.

The inauguration of the Bukedea Teaching Hospital and Bukedea Institute of Health Sciences marked a significant milestone in the region’s healthcare infrastructure. These facilities, spearheaded by Among, aim to address healthcare challenges and improve access to medical services for residents of Bukedea and neighboring districts.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa commended Speaker Among for her initiatives to enhance healthcare in Teso sub-region. He praised her efforts in improving maternal healthcare and saving lives, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in underserved communities.




Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s appointment as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) also garnered appreciation from Speaker Among. She thanked President Museveni for entrusting Gen. Muhoozi with this significant responsibility, emphasizing the importance of unity and continuity in leadership within the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

President Yoweri Museveni lauded Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, for her innovative approach in addressing the challenges faced by her constituents. Speaking in Bukedea district during the opening ceremony of Bukedea Teaching Hospital and Bukedea Institute of Health Sciences, both spearheaded by Speaker Among, President Museveni commended her efforts to bring about positive change.

Reflecting on their past interactions, President Museveni recalled advising Speaker Among against accumulating debts, recognizing her ambitious endeavors to uplift her community. During the tour of the hospital, President Museveni inquired about the source of funding for the project. To his surprise, Speaker Among revealed that she utilized the proceeds from a school, Bukedea Comprehensive Academy, which she established, redirecting school fees towards the construction of the hospital. Impressed by her resourcefulness, President Museveni commended her innovative approach to problem-solving.

Highlighting Speaker Among’s strategic planning and commitment to community development, President Museveni acknowledged her contributions to transforming the landscape of Bukedea. By investing her resources in initiatives such as the hospital and healthcare training, she has not only improved access to quality healthcare but also generated employment opportunities for many individuals.

In addition to creating a debt-free and sustainable healthcare operation, President Museveni praised Speaker Among’s dedication to serving her constituents. He emphasized the importance of replicating such initiatives across the country, urging other leaders to invest in local development projects rather than engaging in fundraising activities that may breed corruption.

Chris Obore, Parliament’s director of communication and public affairs, highlighted the significant impact of the hospital, which caters to a wide region extending from Mbale to Moroto district. Notably, the hospital provides free maternity services, underscoring Speaker Among’s commitment to addressing healthcare disparities.

Government Chief Whip Denis Obua commended Speaker Among for her investment in local development, emphasizing the importance of supporting the Ugandan economy through domestic investments. Similarly, Sports State Minister Peter Ogwang praised the hospital’s potential to enhance healthcare quality and stimulate economic activity in the region.
