Last week, there was a hullabaloo in the land of Matooke and Boda Bodas as Mr. Museveni decided to shuffle his cabinet and army like a deck of cards at a Kampala casino. In a move that surprised approximately no one, Mr. Museveni elevated his own flesh and blood, his son, as the big boss of the army, Chief of Defence Force (CDF), and sent another general packing off to a trade adventure in the Ministry of Trade.
Now, the opposition fellas at FDC, those who always have something to say about Mr. Museveni’s antics, have been quick to share their two cents. According to them, this cabinet shuffle is like watching a family picnic, with Mr. Museveni making sure all his kin get a slice of the Ugandan pie. We’ve got Mr. Museveni as the head honcho, his dear wife Janet calling the shots in education, his brother Salim in charge of military gossip, his son-in-law Odrek having some sort of special advice gig, and now his own son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, leading the army. Talk about a family reunion in State House!
FDC is not just sipping on their millet beer and watching this circus unfold; they’re raising their eyebrows higher than a Rwenzori mountain peak. They’re saying, “Hey, what’s up with all these ‘bavubi’ sliding into ministerial seats?” Apparently, these new faces are not just any Tom, Dick, or Mary. They’re loyal promoters of the Patriotic League of Uganda, whatever that is. Sounds like a fan club for Mr. Museveni’s greatest hits.
FDC isn’t done yet. They’re waving their finger at Mr. Museveni’s big, fat cabinet, calling it more bloated than a pregnant cow. They say it’s sucking the life out of taxpayers faster than a thirsty cow at a watering hole. And don’t get them started on those cabinet members caught red-handed in the iron sheet heist. Some got the boot, but others? Well, they’re still chilling in their plush seats. If this was a movie, it’d be called “The Iron Sheet Caper: Cabinet Edition.”
But here’s the kicker: FDC wants everyone to know they’re not cozying up to Mr. Museveni and his NRM pals. Nope, no colluding going on here, they say. And to prove it, they point to the cabinet lineup, showing that there ain’t a single FDC soul in there. If there was any hanky-panky between FDC and NRM, they argue, they would’ve won that Dokolo by-election. But alas, they’re still on the sidelines, watching the political drama unfold like everyone else in this grand Ugandan theater.
The FDC’s hot take on Mr. Museveni’s cabinet shuffle is available in full on X:
CABINET RESHUFFLE
Last week, Mr. Museveni made a few changes in his cabinet and within the army, appointing his son as the Chief of Defence Force (CDF) and relocating Gen. Mbandi from his position at the helm of UPDF to the Ministry of Trade.
In the FDC, we view the promotion…
