The Uganda Police Force, through the Territorial Police in KMP East and Kira road CPS, has successfully apprehended a suspect linked to the theft of laptops and iPads during workshops held in hotels. The arrested individual, identified as Nanteza Joan, faces charges of personation and criminal trespass after unlawfully entering a conference hall at Kabira County Club and posing as a participant in a workshop organized by ACODE. Under the alias Abuje Sharon, which was not listed as a participant, Nanteza gained access to the event with the intent to steal or commit other felonies.

Nanteza Joan is believed to be part of a group of thieves who systematically target organized workshops and conferences hosted at various hotels. They seize opportunities during breaks, photo sessions, and the conclusion of workshops to pilfer smartphones, bags, iPads, and laptops from unsuspecting attendees. Upon interrogation, Nanteza falsely claimed to be an evening student of Environmental Studies at Makerere University. Investigations suggest that university students may have been another demographic targeted by the thieves.

Further inquiries revealed that on January 29, 2024, Nanteza attended a workshop at Riders Hotel in Seeta, assuming different identities and absconding with a Samsung Tablet containing a Health Information System Program. The stolen device was recovered from her possession. The police are conducting extensive investigations to identify additional accomplices and facilitate the recovery of stolen items.

The Uganda Police Force has extended gratitude to the security team at Kabira Country Club for their vigilance and dedication in combating criminal activities on their premises.

According to Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, this successful apprehension serves as a warning to individuals engaging in deceitful practices that they will be detected and held accountable for their actions.

The police further emphasized their commitment to maintaining law and order, safeguarding public safety, and ensuring that justice prevails.
