Uganda Breaks Ground for Consulate Construction in Guangzhou, China

On Friday, April 12, the Consulate General of Uganda in Guangzhou marked a significant milestone with a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of its Chancery and Official Residence in Chigang Consulate zone, Haizhu District, Guangzhou.

The event drew high-ranking officials from the Chinese government, including Qian Hongjie, the Deputy Director General of the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office (FAO), along with senior officials from government departments of Guandong Province, Guangzhou City, and Haizhu District. Also in attendance were Consul Generals from various countries with consulates in Guangzhou.




Representing Uganda were the Consul General, Amb. Judyth Nsababera, MP Norah Bigirwa Nyendwoha, Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Parliament of Uganda, a representative from the Uganda Embassy in Beijing, and leaders of the Uganda Diaspora community in China.




In her address, Nsababera emphasized Uganda’s commitment to strengthening its relations with China, citing the construction of a permanent consulate in Guangzhou as a testament to this commitment. She highlighted the forthcoming commencement of direct flights between Entebbe and Guangzhou by Uganda Airlines as a further step in enhancing bilateral ties between the two nations.




Qian Hongjie conveyed warm congratulations to the Consulate General of Uganda in Guangzhou for achieving this important milestone. She reaffirmed the positive relations between Uganda and China, assuring continued support and cooperation from relevant departments of Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City for the timely completion of the consulate’s construction.

Jiang Junzan, Chairman of Hengsheng Construction Group Co. Ltd, the General Contractor for the project, expressed the significance of this venture for their company. He pledged Hengsheng’s commitment to upholding integrity, harmony, innovation, and excellence in ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of the consulate construction project.

Amidst the formalities, guests had the opportunity to savor the rich taste of Ugandan coffee and enjoy cultural performances showcasing Uganda’s diverse heritage, adding a touch of cultural exchange to the auspicious occasion.
