Assistant Superintendent of Police Luke Owoyesigire, serving as the Deputy Police Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, addressed the pressing issue of escalating incidents of stone throwing by criminal elements along the northern bypass (Kiira Road) and in the surrounding areas of Kimbejja, Kyaliwajala, and Namugongo (Kiira Division). In response, a coordinated joint operation was swiftly initiated, involving local councils, PISOS, GISO, CMI, UPDF, CI, and area Police, aimed at curbing the menace posed by these miscreants.

The operation, conducted with meticulous planning and collaboration between various security agencies and community stakeholders, yielded significant results. On May 5, 2024, a total of 70 suspected criminals were apprehended. Among them, 15 individuals were captured along the northern bypass and are currently being held at Kiira Road, while 55 others were apprehended from areas including Nalya, Kyaliwajjala, Kimbejja, and Namugongo, and are detained at Kiira Division.

The swift and decisive action taken by law enforcement authorities garnered both praise and feedback from the public. Simon, a member of the community, shared his personal experience of being attacked and robbed by thieves, emphasizing the importance of such operations in ensuring public safety. He expressed gratitude for the police intervention, noting that while he sustained non-fatal injuries, the situation could have been much worse.

Christopher Ssenyonyi acknowledged the efforts of the police but raised concerns about the collaboration between some members of the police force and criminals. He recounted an incident involving a friend who was attacked by a neighbor, highlighting the need for internal accountability within law enforcement agencies.

Joan Nsabimana commended the Uganda Police Force for their proactive approach and expressed hope that the operations would continue to target criminals, particularly those using motorcycles for their illicit activities. She emphasized the prevalence of such offenders and urged law enforcement authorities not to relent in their efforts to maintain public safety.
