The leadership of Inzu Ya Masaba, led by cultural leader His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma, appeals to the Bamasaba people of Bududa District, Mbale District, Namisindwa District, Manafwa, Mbale City, Bulambuli, and Sironko to participate in the 11th population census slated for May 10, 2024, which will run until May 19, 2024.
All dwellers of Bugisu as a region, whether Basoga, Banyole, Chinese, Indians, Chotara, and other groups, are encouraged to participate in the census. The leadership of Inzu Ya Masaba reminds Bamasaba and other persons staying in Masabaland about the immense benefits of the census. The census will establish the number of people in Masabaland, including the clans they belong to, education levels of Bamasaba and other groups, including employment status and the nature of houses they occupy.
The spokesperson for Inzu Ya Masaba, Mr. Steven Masiga, encourages every Mumasaba not to be left out of the census. We expect population and census officials in the various Local Governments of Bugisu to update Inzu Ya Masaba if there is non-compliance with the program, and we shall use cultural tips to induce compliance with the census.
The National Housing and Population Census 2024 will also establish the various tribes in Masabaland through a special questionnaire that has been developed by UBOS.
According to UBOS, all enumerators have been well-trained and taken an oath not to misuse the information they will come across during the census. We encourage our people to participate in the program to avoid the ramifications imposed by the law for failure to be counted or answer questions.
The method of collecting data in the census will be through oral questions, and there are special provisions for those who are deaf and mute. The cultural and traditional institutions in Uganda should encourage their subjects to participate in this exercise, emphasized the spokesperson of Inzu Ya Masaba.
Bamasaba should know that our culture allows counting of our people, and even our ancestors used to go through the same, Mr. Masiga stressed.
