Today, tragedy struck on the Ntungamo-Rukungiri Road in Ntungamo District as a road crash claimed the lives of six people and left three others injured. The incident occurred at 0610hrs at Kakiika, involving two motor vehicles: UBN 337H, a Toyota Hiace, and UAP 385U, an Isuzu bus belonging to Kasaaba Bus Company.

Initial reports indicate that motor vehicle UBN 337H was traveling from Rukungiri to Ntungamo when it experienced a tyre puncture. The driver parked the vehicle on the right-hand side of the road, partially obstructing the tarmac, in an attempt to fix the tyre. The vehicle’s hazard lights were on to signal its presence.

Tragically, the Isuzu bus, which was en route from Kampala to Rukungiri, veered off the road and collided head-on with the parked Toyota Hiace. The impact of the collision resulted in the instantaneous death of six individuals, including the driver of the Toyota Hiace, the turn man, and a police officer from Nsangi Police Station. Additionally, three other individuals sustained injuries in the crash.

Upon receiving the distress call, traffic police swiftly responded to the scene. They promptly transported the injured victims to Devine Health & Ntungamo Specialist Medical Centres for urgent medical attention.

Following standard procedure, the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Rwashameire Health Centre IV for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the involved motor vehicles have been towed to Ntungamo Central Police Station as investigations into the cause of the tragic accident commence.
