MBARARA – Police in Mbarara District are intensifying efforts to apprehend suspects responsible for setting fire to a shop owned by local businessman Ndyabayunga Milton in Kagongi sub-county. The incident occurred early yesterday morning in Nsiika Cell, Kagongi sub-county.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing individuals using petrol to ignite the fire, which quickly engulfed the shop and caused extensive damage to its contents. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, prompting authorities to appeal to the public for any information that could aid in identifying the perpetrators.

Mbarara District Police confirmed the severity of the incident and deployed investigators to the scene to collect evidence. “We are treating this as a serious crime and are committed to finding those responsible,” stated an anonymous police official. “We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in our investigation.”

Ndyabayunga Milton, the distraught shop owner, expressed shock over the destruction of his livelihood. “I don’t understand why someone would do this. My shop was essential to the community, and now everything is lost,” he lamented, appealing to residents to assist the police in apprehending the culprits.

The attack has raised concerns among residents about their safety and the possibility of future incidents. “This area has always been peaceful, and such violence is unprecedented,” remarked Sarah Nakanwagi, a resident of Nsiika Cell. “We hope the police swiftly apprehend those responsible and bring them to justice.”

Authorities are considering various motives behind the attack, including potential business rivalry or personal vendettas. However, they have not ruled out other possibilities and are pursuing all leads to uncover the truth.

In response to community fears, police have increased patrols in the area to prevent further incidents and reassure residents. “We are committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and will take every measure to prevent such acts of violence,” assured a police spokesperson.
