Bobi Wine: Government's Response to NUP Threats Shows They’re Afraid of the People

Bobi Wine, the leader of Uganda’s largest opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has sharply criticized the government’s response to activities at the NUP headquarters. Wine’s comments follow increased tension and recent events surrounding the party’s offices.

Bobi Wine’s post accused the government of transforming the NUP headquarters into a “military barracks.” According to his statement, several NUP leaders have been arrested violently, and roads leading to the party’s office have been blocked. Wine claimed that these actions are a sign of fear from the government, suggesting that the authorities are scared of the growing influence of the people.




These cowards have turned the National Unity Platform Headquarters into a military barracks. Several leaders have been violently arrested. They have now blocked the roads leading to the office. All because THEY ARE SCARED OF THE PEOPLE. And yes, WHEN WE LOSE OUR FEAR FOR THEM, THEY WILL LOSE THEIR POWER OVER US.

In a video released on July 22, 2024, during the weekly press conference, the Uganda Police Force (UPF) addressed these claims. The police spokesperson explained that on July 15, 2024, a warning had been issued to individuals who were mobilizing through social media. These individuals had informed the Inspector General of Police about their intention to march to Parliament as part of a demonstration. The police had expressed concerns about this mobilization effort and took action to prevent it.




The UPF’s statement emphasized the importance of following legal procedures for public demonstrations. The police highlighted that any organized march or demonstration requires proper authorization and adherence to regulations to ensure public safety and order.




The Uganda Police Force (UPF) has clearly articulated its position regarding recent events. on July 15, 2024, UPF issued a warning to unidentified individuals engaged in a mobilization campaign across social media platforms. On that date, these individuals notified the Inspector General of Police about their intention to march to parliament by way of precession and demonstration”
