The newly elected Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci) of Lango, Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, has refuted allegations that he is causing division and the formation of new clans among the Lango people.
He described such claims as unfounded and the product of self-serving individuals who oppose progress in the Lango cultural institution.
Dr. Okune stated that leaders of clans like Otikokin and Inomo should be aware that he played no role in dividing these clans. They existed long before 2003, as documented in the Lango cultural institution’s constitution established during his tenure as a clan leader.
He explained that the 2003 constitution clearly listed clan members, including established and recognized clans like Inomo Cilogulu and Inomo. He emphasized that these clans existed well before his time as a clan leader.
Dr. Okune acknowledged potential animosity towards him from some clan members, but he dismissed these claims as irrelevant.
His Highness Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune addressed his subjects during a meeting at his residence in Senior Quarters on Sunday. He categorically denied involvement in any clan division or the formation of new clans within the Lango sub-region. He emphasized that he is not responsible for these issues and does not endorse them in any way.
Dr. Okune refuted accusations by a small number of clan leaders who are unfairly blaming him for pre-existing divisions.
He urged all clans to unite and embrace reconciliation and unity as they work together towards his coronation as the new Won Nyaci on November 2nd, 2024.
