Police Operation Nets 11 Suspects in Nansana After Series of Attacks
On July 30, 2024, at approximately 8:00 AM, police conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kiblocker, Nansana East IIA, Nansana municipality, Wakiso District. The operation was initiated in response to public concerns and prior attacks by individuals wielding pangas (machetes) on civilians in Nabweru South II cell.
During this operation, police arrested 11 individuals, including nine men and two women. The suspects are:
- Ssembatya Allan, 28, a plumber from Entebbe
- Madondo Latif, 27, from Nabweru
- Kawoya Arnold, 21, from Bump Ganda
- Nkurunziza Rugamba, 26, from Nansana East IIA
- Kaziba Shakur, 17, from Nansana East IIA
- Amanya Alili, 24, a bodaboda rider with vehicle registration UDZ 039A, from Kyewamala
- Kabandana Leonard, 39, from Nansana East IIA
- Kakooza Rayan, 19, from Kayunga, Wakiso
- Akizimana Emmanuel, from Nansana West IIA
- Kabugo Evelyn, 32, a shopkeeper from Nansana East IIA
- Namukasa Shamira, 31, from Nansana East IIA
In addition to the arrests, a search was carried out at the residence of 62-year-old farmer Abed Fauzia in Namayumba, specifically in the room of her daughter, Namukasa Shamira. The search resulted in the seizure of various items:
- Six televisions of different sizes: 63 inches, 53 inches, 43 inches, and three 32 inches
- Two pangas
- Three pairs of pliers
- Multiple screwdrivers
- A sack of opium
- A metallic hook wrapped with plastic
- Other miscellaneous items
The televisions recovered during the search have been identified by victims of a recent robbery in Nabweru South II, linking these items—and by extension, the suspects—to the crime.
According to a Uganda Police announcement on X, the suspects will be brought before the court once the investigations are completed. The Police K9 Unit, also known as the Dog Unit, played a crucial role in crime scene management. Between April and June, this unit conducted 4,288 tracking operations, leading to the arrest of 4,289 suspects, according to a statement from the Police Force.
The Uganda Police Force also shared an update from the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba. Byakagaba addressed senior officers enrolled in the Senior Command and Staff Course at the Police Senior Command & Staff College in Bwebajja early this week. In his lecture, he highlighted the strategic direction of the Uganda Police Force and urged the officers to demonstrate dedication, expertise, and commitment in their roles.
Yesterday, Byakagaba hosted a delegation from the Italian Embassy in Uganda, led by His Excellency Mauro Massoni, the Italian Ambassador. The meeting took place at Police Headquarters in Naguru, where they discussed strengthening their partnership and collaboration on matters of mutual interest. Early this week, the Uganda Police Force had the honor of hosting a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Uganda. The visit was led by His Excellency Zhang Lizhong, the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda. This meeting was part of ongoing efforts to enhance collaboration and strengthen the partnership between Uganda and China. The discussions focused on mutual interests and ways to deepen cooperation in various areas.
On Monday, the Uganda Police Force’s Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU) launched a five-day training program for 32 officers from Kampala and other regions. Held at the Child Welfare Guesthouse in Kamwokya, the training focuses on improving skills in managing child and family conflicts, responding to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases, and ensuring justice for affected individuals.
The program was inaugurated by Deputy Director of Human Resource Development, Senior Commissioner of Police Ann Tusiime. She highlighted the need for officers to work together to tackle increasing GBV and violence against children.
The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) headquarters hosted the launch of a one-week training program for the Forensic Audit Unit on Monday 29th July 2024. Mr. James Bantu, Director of Forensic Investigations and IT Audits, represented the Auditor General at the event. Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP) Chelimo Beata, Deputy Director of CID, was also present.
The training is designed to enhance collaboration and improve performance within the unit. A statement of the CID said this initiative reflects the CID’s commitment to strengthening its forensic capabilities and ensuring more effective investigations.
