Mutebi II Announces Health Recovery Despite Missing Coronation

In his message, the Kabaka noted that his health is improving, but he could not attend the celebrations due to his ongoing medical situation and the advice of his doctors. He recently returned home after spending about three months abroad for treatment.

The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has reported that his health is improving, despite missing the 31st anniversary of his coronation on July 31. His message was conveyed through a pre-recorded video broadcast during a church service at Namirembe Cathedral in Kampala, marking his coronation anniversary.

In his video address, the Kabaka began by expressing his gratitude for reaching this milestone. He acknowledged the support and care he has received from medical professionals both locally and internationally. “We thank God for the life he has given us and the treatment we have received from various countries. We thank the doctors for their ongoing care. Although our health continues to improve, we were unable to join you for the anniversary celebrations as usual,” he stated.

The Kabaka’s absence from the celebration was attributed to his health condition and medical advice. He had recently returned to Uganda after spending approximately three months abroad for treatment.

His return coincided with a period of controversy. The Namibian government had recently declined to extend his visa amid rumors that he had been abducted. This situation led to protests, which the Namibian authorities said endangered their diplomatic personnel.

The Kabaka had traveled to Namibia for a private medical visit on April 14, 2024. During his stay, a group of Buganda clan chiefs who visited him were briefly detained by the Namibian police for preventive reasons.
