The South Africa NRM Chapter has actively promoted the interests of Ugandans living in South Africa by organizing events and activities to promote Ugandan culture, trade, and investment.
In the same spirit, members and supporters from nine provinces have organized the 6th Edition of the NRM Symposium to celebrate the tremendous achievements of H.E. President Museveni, and discuss socio-economic transformation, trade, and investment, among other topics.
The two-day symposium, slated for September 27-28, 2024, in Johannesburg, will be presided over by the NRM National Chairman, H.E. President Museveni, under the theme “Socio-Economic Transformation: Navigating Through Trade & Investment on the African Continent.”
Other notable speakers will include ANC Secretary General Hon. Fikile Mbalula, ANC Treasurer General Dr. Gwen Ramokgopa, NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, Presidency Minister Hon. Milly Babalanda, Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa Ambassador Paul Amoru, and Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, among others.
NRM South Africa Chapter Chairperson Isma Luzige says the symposium will cover a range of topics, including the digital economy, mining, education, and health. He adds that it will also provide a platform for Ugandans to interact with development partners and potential investors from South Africa.
“Representatives from various Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries are expected to participate.”
The Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, notes that the meeting will provide a platform for members in South Africa to air their concerns.
“The symposium will ensure that Ugandans in the diaspora can exercise their voting rights as the 2026 general elections approach. Additionally, the symposium will focus on visa-free entry, open borders for business, and diaspora voting, targeting our people overseas.”
He also stresses that South Africa is a key trade partner for Uganda, contributing significantly to Uganda’s GDP and trade balance.
The organizing committee has called upon members and supporters to attend the symposium in large numbers, as it will offer an opportunity to address their issues and have a voice in decision-making processes.
The event will feature cultural entertainment performances by groups from different parts of Uganda and South Africa.
