The Agago Resident District Commissioner (RDC), James Nabbison Kidega Nock, confirmed to our reporter that they have surveyed the flood-affected areas and collected data for the affected households. These lists have been forwarded to the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness and Refugees in Kampala.
Commissioner Kidega added that they are awaiting feedback from the ministry officials to determine how to assist the affected households.
One of the severely affected areas is Ladere, Adilang, where recent floods displaced several people.
An 18-year-old boy from Adilang Town Council, Okello Boy, said that they were completely displaced by the floods due to heavy rains. Their ancestral home in Ladere, Agago County, was destroyed, and they are requesting the Ugandan government to provide them with beans and posho as they have lost all their belongings.
A 51-year-old woman from Lacekotoo Village in Adilang Sub-County, identified only as Sabina, expressed gratitude to Agago RDC James Kidega Nock and Assistant RDC Bostify John Oweka for their timely response to the area’s problems, including floods.
Attempts to contact the State Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon. Aber Lillian, for clarification on the flooding situation in Agago District were unsuccessful as she did not answer repeated phone calls.
