“We Shouldn’t be Discussing Muhoozi in Parliament, Uganda Has More Pressing Issues to Focus On” -MP Nsereko

While appearing on a national TV morning show today, Hon. Muhammad Nsereko, the Member of Parliament for Kampala Central and a well-known opposition figure, said he is beyond discussing individuals in parliament.

This came in response to a question about his thoughts on Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s withdrawal from the 2026 presidential race and Muhoozi’s controversial remarks on Twitter, which many MPs viewed as an attack on democracy and a violation of military constitutional rules.

Nsereko said, “I won’t be drawn into discussing an individual. I want us to discuss the future of this country, and the future of our children.”

He emphasized that parliament should focus on pressing issues affecting the country rather than spending time on one individual.

“What we should discuss is the state of education and the curriculum that we have, the high levels of unemployment, broken health system, broken infrastructure, etc., not an individual (Muhoozi),” he explained.

Nsereko also criticized the quality of debates in the country, noting that they are often not based on facts but rather on rumors. “When the debate in the country is not driven by facts, it’s then driven by rumor mongers,” he added.

When asked if there was a hidden reason behind the sacking of KCCA Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, Nsereko said that it is within the president’s power to appoint and remove officials, so there should be no cause for concern.”The president has the authority to appoint and disappoint anyone at any time. The people the president appoints represent him,” Nsereko stated.

He also offered advice to public officers, urging them to treat people with respect, as their time in office is never permanent.

“I tell public officers every day that there will be a time that you are out of that office, so you need to prepare and treat people better,” he concluded.

Nsereko’s comments reflect his desire for parliament to focus on critical national issues such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, rather than political distractions.
