(LUWEERO) – Businessman Kasule George William was brought before the Chief Magistrates Court in Luweero on October 2, 2024, facing charges of obtaining goods by false pretenses. Kasule is accused of impersonating officials from various government offices, including the State House, the Office of the President, and the Ministry of Lands, to deceive multiple victims and extract large sums of money under false promises.
The charges were filed following a joint investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Kasule allegedly misled his victims by pretending to have the ability to solve various personal or business issues, exploiting his fake connections to influential government offices.
Authorities stated that Kasule had convinced several individuals to hand over significant amounts of money, assuring them that he could assist with matters ranging from land disputes to gaining favor with key government offices. However, it was later discovered that Kasule had no such influence and had been deceiving his victims.
After being arraigned in court, Kasule was remanded in custody until October 23, 2024, when the court is set to hear further proceedings in the case. If found guilty, he faces severe penalties under Uganda’s laws against fraud and impersonation.
The Anti-Corruption Unit emphasized its determination to curb fraud and corruption in both public and private sectors. They encouraged citizens to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to avoid falling victim to such schemes. They also reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with law enforcement agencies to bring fraudsters to justice.
