(Karugutu, Ntoroko) – The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Mountain Warfare Training School recently held a graduation ceremony for 166 soldiers who completed a rigorous 16 week Mountain Warfare Technical Course. This event took place in Karugutu, located in Ntoroko district.
Col Godfrey Kyomuhendo, the Division Operation and Training Officer, addressed the graduates, encouraging them to serve their nation with dedication, integrity, and sincerity. He stressed that these values are crucial for making a positive impact as they apply their training in real-world situations.
During his remarks, Col Kyomuhendo reflected on the achievements of Operation Shujaa, stating, “The Wanaichi are back in their homes, schools have reopened, and markets are operational.” He urged the new graduates to prepare themselves for upcoming missions to help eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area.
Lt Col Jedidiah Kiyengo, the Commandant of the Mountain Warfare Training School, emphasized the importance of the skills acquired during the course. He noted that the training equipped the soldiers with essential knowledge and techniques for effective operations in high-altitude environments. Lt Col Kiyengo also encouraged the graduates to maintain the discipline they demonstrated during their training and to prioritize their health as they serve in the defence of Uganda.
Among the graduates, Pte Olara Emma was recognized as the best overall student, while Pte Naturinda Sandra received the award for best female student.
The graduation ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Ntoroko, Maj (Rtd) Jones Mugabirwe, as well as senior and junior UPDF officers, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Ntoroko, local government leaders, and members of the community.
