Uganda secured a dominant 39-0 win over Senegal to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Rugby Africa 7s tournament.

(Accra) – Uganda secured a dominant 39-0 victory over Senegal, earning a place in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Rugby Africa 7s tournament. The win, which came during the second round of the competition, saw standout performances from several players, including Lydia Namabiro, Unity Namulala, Maimuna Nassozi, and Peace Lekuru, who all crossed the try line. Tina Akello contributed with the conversions, ensuring Uganda’s commanding scoreline.

The match against Senegal was a one-sided affair, with Uganda showing clinical efficiency in both attack and defense. Namabiro was particularly impressive, scoring three tries, while Namulala added two. Nassozi and Lekuru each added one try to further seal the victory.




Uganda’s victory in this match means they will now face Zambia in their final pool match, with the outcome determining which team tops Pool C. The clash with Zambia is set to be a decisive one, as both teams have already demonstrated their strengths in the tournament.




In their opening game earlier in the day, Uganda had already triumphed over Côte d’Ivoire with a dominant 48-0 scoreline. This win had set the tone for their solid performance in the group stage, showcasing the team’s depth and skill.




With these two victories, Uganda is on track for a strong finish in the competition. The women’s team, under the guidance of their coaching staff, will now look to carry the momentum into their final pool match against Zambia as they seek to top their group and advance further in the tournament.
